Canoe Lake Cree First Nation

Canoe Lake Cree First Nation is a Cree community in northern Saskatchewan. The Nation signed Treaty 10 on September 19, 1906, with Chief John Iron, Headman Baptiste Iron and Headman Jerome Couillonneur signing for the Nation. Cree families have lived on this land for generations, hunting, trapping and fishing.

Why "Ôsi"?

ôsi is a Cree word for canoe.

For generations, the canoe carried people across lakes like Canoe Lake to traplines, fishing spots and neighbouring communities. Our name is a nod to that history and to the work we do: carrying the load across the north.
